Nothing is Everything.

FULL DESCRIPTION

Do not believe what you first see... under the demureness of the name, the spicy savour of blackcurrant bays and the musky notes of blonde suede. Rien is a second skin perfume, a perfume that clings to the body and perseveres in the mind. Like venial sin on the verge of becoming mortal, irresistible and resolutely pervasive. As light as mohair and as precious as cashmere, the fragrance envelops skin with a powdered caress. It has the meticulous elegance and hypnotic beauty of a modern Dorian Gray, in a feminine/masculine version.

An entrancing fragrance that leaves an unforgettable imprint. Utter charm, utterly charismatic. The vanilla/opium accord of the drydown reinforces the addiction. Rien is an essential.

A perfumer’s confession.

The metaphysical store of my youth

Love at first spray - I'd bought a sample a while back, and finally purchased a full size bottle. If you've never been to a musty new age shop, this is a musty new age shop in a bottle. Old books, dark corners, boxes of incense that have been there since the 1970s with sun faded labels and covered in dust, and human musk that's been blended in with so many oils and smoke that it's not so much body odor as another part of the magic. A favorite in my whole collection.

Some of my favorite smells are gasoline, sharpies, rubbing alcohol, basements, musty closets, etc. I would put this scent in that category, but I don't want that to put anyone off. This perfume is beautiful. It is rich, heavy, and incensey. It has an oiliness to it, and if worn in public, I think would give the impression that you work in some kind of auto shop. That said, I think it would be perfect for sweltering summer afternoons in the city.

My first "love at first sniff"

Whenever I've felt the need to wear fragrance, I have always just worn whatever-- something gifted and generic from some second rate designer brand. Rien was the start of my love affair with fragrance. At the top, it makes its presence known in a love-it-or-hate-it fashion, then dries down to become an unmistakable scent of sex and confidence. Sillage and longevity second to few if any. From now on, no matter the situation, I will feel comfortable wearing "nothing."
